Town of Gibsons and District of Sechelt both declared February 2025, to be Toastmasters Month.
The Toastmasters program is a wonderful opportunity for people over 18 years old to gain confidence in their presentation and leadership skills. Storytelling and telling jokes, included.
Practicing regularly in the supportive club setting builds members speaking ease in a self-paced experience. Taking club roles, such as speech evaluator and speech timer builds team support.
Another opportunity that Toastmasters offers is being part of an annual speech contest, locally and regionally, and then onto the world stage. This year, the area contest, open to the public, will be held at Harmony Hall in Lower Gibsons, March 1, from 2:15 to 4:30 p.m.
Guests are welcome to attend up to three meetings before deciding which club fits their learning needs. There are in-person, virtual, and hybrid meetings in our region and all over the world.
On the Coast, there is Focus Point Toastmasters Monday evenings from 6:45 to 8 p.m. at Harmony Hall, and Sunshine Toastmasters, Tuesday evenings both in-person and online (hybrid) from 7 to 8 p.m. at Rockwood Lodge, Sechelt. Morningstars TM, online, is 8 to 9 a.m. on Wednesdays. Howe Sound Advanced TM is online the second Thursday of every month.
Toastmasters offers education and training for community and professional development and is well worth the membership fees. The new six-month membership commitment begins end of March 2025.
