Two events in support of Terry Fox will take place on Sunday, Sept. 18, in Gibsons and Roberts Creek.
The Gibsons Terry Fox Run starts at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre with registration at 9 a.m. and the run gets going after a warm up at 9:30.
Anything goes - one, three, five or 10 km routes all avoiding the highway shoulders. Any mode of locomotion is welcome -run, walk, bike, skateboard, with kids, pets, partners, running groups, sports teams, Beavers, Brownies, dancers, whatever.
"We are all inspired and in awe of the efforts made by Terry Fox and his family in encouraging a healthy activity in the efforts to conquer cancer," said run organizer Mary Findlay. "The funds raised through donations and pledges go in large part to actual cancer research due to the fact that the Terry Fox Foundation attracts volunteers to co-ordinate the fund-raising. Please come out on a lovely Sunshine Coast day and bring a friend to participate in this heart-warming event."
Pledge sheets and information are available at Dr. Don and Emery Bland's dental office in Gibsons, by email [email protected] or call 604-886-7020.
The Roberts Creek Terry Fox Run goes from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Roberts Creek Elementary School. Registration opens at 9.
Participants can walk, jog, bike or board the 5 km or 10 km route. Pledge forms are available at the school, and you can also deal with pledges on-line.
