Spring has sprang and if you’re ready to get sprung on exciting events in your neighbourhood, I would love to walk you through some highlights happening this coming week in Area E, at two very central Elphinstone locations.

Friday, May 10, the localish Ben Arsenault will be the first to perform at Sunday Cider’s Live On The Grass music series that they hold every year. Live On The Grass is free and starts at 6 p.m. every Friday from now ‘til the rains come next autumn. Ben is pretty much a country legend here on the Sunshine Coast. He’ll be playing tracks from his new album Never Been the Boss and his voice is timeless. The week after will be Canadian alternative RnB/Hip-Hop artist Bobo Violets. This guy’s music is jam-packed with soul, and I’m super excited to see all the songs I’ve been hearing on Spotify performed live. We are really lucky to have such talent hitting up the Coast.

I don’t know who needs a reminder but it is Mother’s Day this Sunday, May 12, and most mothers, as a general fact, love next-level cider mimosas. Bring Mom down to Sunday Cider from noon until 4 p.m. and enjoy a vintage pop-up market from Roberts Creek Well Being set up with incredible clothing scores and unique handmade items. Fresh cut flower bouquets will be for sale, fresh baked goodies from The Good Loaf and Smitty’s “Mitt Mobile” will be serving the goods at their food truck. That’s everything you need to make a rocking day for the special mama in your life.

Wednesday, May 15, is a busy one in Elphinstone. Kelly Judge of RR7 Farmstead invites you to join your neighbours for a dinner and discussion entitled Rooted In Community at 5 p.m. It will be an hour of “brainstorming, sustainability, and practicability” at the Frank West Hall on Chaster Road before the monthly general meeting of the Elphinstone Community Association (ECA). There is no cost to participate and all are welcome.

The ECA’s meeting at 7 p.m. will feature another saucy Director’s Report by Area E Director, Donna McMahon, which she usually entitles “I Can’t Make This Stuff Up” for reasons you’ll have to come hear to believe. This is a great opportunity to engage with your elected official and ask some burning questions. The ECA has chosen another excellent speaker for the month of May. Kelly Foley, of Cover the Coast: Alliance For Affordable Housing, will provide an update on the work being done with regard to housing in our communities as prices remain high in Elphinstone and Coast-wide.

All great reasons to shake off your winter coat and come engage with other folks in Area E, so see you out there!

I would love to hear feedback, take suggestions on topics, and hear from all 3,883 residents of Elphinstone. Email me at [email protected]
