Driver in Wharf Ave incident ticketed for driving without a licence: Police report

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for the week of March 14 to 21

Collision

  • On March 16, police attended a two-vehicle incident at the intersection of Dolphin Street and Wharf Avenue, Sechelt, after a witness reported the first vehicle attempted to complete a left turn on the amber light and was struck by the second vehicle going straight through the intersection. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported and damage to the vehicles was not extensive. The driver of the second vehicle was issued a violation ticket for no driver’s licence and the matter has been referred to ICBC.
  • On March 15, police attended a three-vehicle incident in a parking lot in the 1100 block of Highway 101, Gibsons, after the driver of the first vehicle reversed out of a spot and got their foot caught in the mat which also caused the gas pedal to become stuck. The first vehicle continued backing into a second vehicle and pushed the second vehicle into a third one. All three vehicles sustained damage, and one had to be towed from the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Police have requested a medical fitness review for the first vehicle driver and the matter has been referred to ICBC.
  • On March 17, police attended a two-vehicle incident on Highway 101 near Bay Road, Davis Bay. The first vehicle driver advised they had stopped behind a vehicle waiting to make a left turn off the road and were struck from behind by the second vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle advised they noted the first vehicle had stopped and applied the brakes hard but were unable to stop in time to avoid the collision. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported and the vehicle damage was minor. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

Impaired Driving

  • On March 15, police initiated a traffic stop with someone for a separate matter and noted the driver exhibiting signs of possible intoxication from alcohol. The driver was given a roadside alcohol screening test and after two fail results, was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and violation ticket for no driver’s licence. The matter has been referred to RoadSafetyBC.
  • Late on March 15, police attended a single vehicle incident near Henry Road and Reed Road, Gibsons, after a vehicle was reported being in the ditch. Police located the lone occupant and driver attempting to get the vehicle out of the ditch on his own and noted the driver exhibiting possible signs of intoxication from alcohol. The driver, who advised consuming alcohol earlier in the evening, was given and failed a roadside alcohol screening test. After two fail results, the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The matter has been referred to RoadSafetyBC.

Break and enter

  • On March 17, a suspect was captured on security camera footage gaining entry to an unoccupied residence in the 1000 block of Woodsworth Road, Gibsons, through an unlocked door. The suspect stole a variety of items, including heirloom rings, clothing, and a tablet computer. Police were able to identify the well-known suspect and apprehended her in Gibsons. The suspect was arrested and a charge for break and enter has been recommended. The file is still under investigation.

Theft

  • Overnight on March 18, a suspect gained entry to a vehicle parked in the 700 block of Gerussi Lane, Gibsons, and rifled through the contents, stealing an Epipen in a black case that had a toy ambulance attached to it, a pair of Klein snips, a Leatherman multi-tool, four baseball caps, including a Bass Pro brand cap, and an Altoids tin filled with coins. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file number 2022-1888.
  • Overnight on March 19, a suspect gained entry to two unlocked vehicles parked in a driveway in the 5900 block of Barnacle Street, Sechelt, rummaged through the contents, and stole a phone booster.
  • Sometime in the past month, a suspect stole a number of items from a boat stored in the 5800 block of Inlet Road, Sechelt, including an Elite 5 Sounder and a Mercury Prokicker motor that had a Panther steering kit attached. Police are reviewing surveillance video and the file is still under investigation. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2022-1913.
