The Sunshine Coast Skating Club had five skaters attending the 2025 BC/YT Super Series Final in Kelowna Feb. 27 to March 2, bringing home three silver medals, one bronze medal and a gold assessment.

As follows: Star 3, Amelia Nanson gold assessment. Star 4 u13 Ally Sato, 6th in her group; Keira Squires u13 silver medal. Star 4 boys Gene Sato, bronze medal. Star 6 freeskate, Brielle Avila, silver medal, Star 7 short program, silver medal.

This provincial-level competition is the final competition in the Super Series list for Star 5 and up skaters, which started with the BC Summer Skate competition in August 2024 and includes regional competitions throughout the five B.C.-Yukon Skate Canada regions. The top three scores from this group of six possible competitions are added up to provide a “Provincial Super Series Champion” for Star 5 gold and pre-juvenile skaters in the Pond to Podium stream.

Brielle Avila competed in both Star 6  (which qualifies her for the Super Series Championship) and Star 7 events and not only brought home silver medals in both events but also placed fourth out of 180 Star 6 provincial women competitors. This is an amazing achievement when considering the on-ice time and season length we have here on the Coast in comparison with other communities in the province. This is a strong testament to the dedication and motivation that Brielle has shown and proves that hard work truly pays off. Bravo Brielle!

Congratulations for these outstanding results to all our Super Series skaters. Small town strong!

Stay tuned for results from the final regional competition of this 2024-25 skating season, which will take place May 16 to 18 in Surrey.
