The Chatelech Disc Golf Club would like to announce and celebrate the opening of the Chatelech Community Disc Golf Course (CCDGC)!
On Thursday, June 22, more than 30 Chatelech staff and students participated in an event to celebrate the grand opening of our new five-hole course located on the sports fields behind Chatelech Secondary School. The kick-off event was made possible by the generous support of the Halfmoon Bay – Chatelech Community School Association, the Chatelech Parent Advisory Council (PAC), and the Sunshine Coast Disc Golf Club. Attendees participated in a beginner’s clinic, learning the key skills of putting and forehand and backhand throws. Many thanks go out to the volunteer coaches who participated in the event: Richard Daubin, Trevor Connors, Josh Romer, and Kevin Durkee!
The CCDGC was born out of a growing interest in disc golf at Chatelech Secondary School. Participation in the sport has ballooned throughout the school year after the establishment of the Chatelech Disc Golf Club in September 2022. “Disc golf! Disc golf! Disc golf!” became a common refrain in the school halls this spring.
The five-hole course layout was established with enthusiastic participation from Chatelech staff, the School District 46 maintenance department and grounds crew, and members of the Sunshine Coast Disc Golf Club. Funding for the permanent baskets came from generous community donations and school contributions. Our community sponsors include Matthew Kliewer Painting, Josh Romer and Trail Bay Source for Sports, and the Chatelech PAC.
We want to invite the community to come and use the course throughout the summer and anytime outside of school hours when there are no booked groups or teams using the fields. It is exciting for us as a club to share our love of disc golf with the rest of the community!
