Calling Sunshine Coast bakers and carvers for a cause

Cody and Megan are at it again. Along with doing a 24-hour walk, with the hopes of walking 100,000 steps in that 24 hours (it’s the goal, now bring on the steps), they are also hosting the 'Fall Fair for Food Security.'

Perennial fundraisers Megan and Cody Kelso are hosting Fall Fair for Food Security on Oct. 19 to raise money for the One Straw Society. Among the activities are baking and carving.

Cody and Megan are at it again.  Along with doing a 24-hour walk, with the hopes of walking 100,000 steps in that 24 hours (it’s the goal, now bring on the steps), they are also hosting the “Fall Fair for Food Security.” Want a chance at winning $1,000 stays in three different locations? Or, if you are a teen, how about gift cards valuing $200! Well, this is where you bakers need to get your yummy treats ready. Your baked goods and entry fee will give you the opportunity to win big. All the rules, details and sign up can be found at www.onestraw/codyandmegan.

Baking isn’t your thing, but you have always wanted to be known as the person with the best carved pumpkin on the Sunshine Coast?  Well, we have that all set for you too! Just bring your $10 and pre-carved pumpkin for adults or for kids and teens $5 and your pre-carved pumpkin. You will have a chance to win $200 gift cards for adults and both the teens and kids will win $100 in gift cards.

Maybe baking and carving aren’t your thing but you need some great gift ideas. Well there will be a market and a silent auction with the possibility of winning a flight, use of a portable sauna, firewood or maybe just a simple meal out.  There is a little bit of something for everyone.

So why did Megan and Cody decide to switch things up a bit? Cody has always loved watching bake-offs on TV and he thought it would be fun for the community to have the opportunity to try their hands at it!  Megan on the other hand has been to many a pumpkin carving contest with friends. She even won the “pummy” one year (a scarecrow that gets passed to the winner amongst her friends).

Why One Straw? They have been able to enjoy the veggie boxes that are available for purchase, but they also know One Straw donates some of these boxes to those in need. It is an organization in the community where Cody first lived. All in all, a great group to help out and Megan and Cody are so excited to help them out and look forward to the new commissary kitchen. You can always just donate as well.  All funds go to them!  Check out:  onestraw.ca/codyandmegan and thanks again for all the support as always!  Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Seaside Centre.
