A local disabled veteran was given the opportunity to participate in training session with the only Canadian Armed Forces Mounted Troop.
Francine Caravan served in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and was severely injured during tactical manoeuvres. She was recently selected to attend a week-long training session with the Lord Strathcona’s Mounted Troop in Canadian Forces Base Edmonton by the Soldier On organization from Oct. 14 to 20.
It is an extreme honour to have this opportunity. Only 12 injured serving or retired members of the CAF could be selected to participate. This year, only six individuals participated in this monumental event. This activity brought together both serving and retired injured CAF members, allowing participants to connect through peer support and encourage a healthy and active lifestyle, recognizing the important role sport can play in a soldier’s recovery.
The original Ceremonial Mounted Troop was formed in 1923 as a means of honouring and maintaining the Cavalry traditions of the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians).
