The Bursary Society of the Canadian Federation of University Women - Sunshine Coast (CFUW-SC) is hosting a luncheon supporting International Women’s Day on Saturday, March 8 at the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club as a fundraiser for the 2025 Bursary Awards. The theme for IWD 2025 is #AccelerateAction. Since 1911, IWD is recognized around the world on March 8. Groups come together to raise awareness of women’s achievements and inspire local action to forge equality.
The guest speaker at this year’s event is Ms. Kimmy Coseteng, M.A., of Right to Learn Afghanistan, where she leads their advocacy work focusing on gender apartheid and the right to education. Since 1998, they have supported human rights and education for Afghan women and girls, through advocacy, humanitarian and educational programs championing gender equality and the universal right to learn.
The luncheon will raise funds for CFUW-SC 2025 Bursaries, which are opening for applications on March 1 through April 15. Women over the age of 21, who have financial need and are furthering their education in academics, a trade or other post secondary education may apply through the CFUW-SC Bursary Society website. Last year, $14,000 was awarded to 18 recipients.
Tickets for the buffet luncheon may be obtained at Fresh in Sechelt or Rainflorist in Gibsons at a cost of $65.
