The British Columbia Dental Association has chosen Dr. Lorne Berman of the Sechelt Dental Centre as a recipient of the Merit Award, to be formally presented in March at the annual Pacific Dental Conference.

It is awarded in recognition of significant contributions to dentistry to acknowledge outstanding colleagues whose achievements have contributed to the profession locally, provincially or nationally. It recognizes colleagues who can exhibit an extraordinary track record in their commitment to community activities or have made a substantial contribution in the field of improvement to dental health.

Described as “a shining jewel” and “a true gem” by colleagues and staff, Dr. Berman exemplifies the positive traits of kindness, generosity, dedication and passion.

Drawn to B.C. more than 45 years ago after graduating from the University of Toronto, Dr. Berman settled in Sechelt and acquired his own practice. He is known as a dentist who will never turn away a patient in pain or distress, no matter their ability to pay for treatment, and has worked tirelessly serving in both his own clinic and at Sechelt Hospital, where he was recently recognized with an award for over 40 years of ongoing service.

Dr. Berman is highly respected in his community for providing patients and staff with high levels of compassion and respect, contributing to the long-term retention of both. A committed environmentalist and arts supporter, he is a pioneer in innovative green initiatives and offers strong support to the local visual and performing arts communities.

The association congratulates Dr. Berman on his deserving award.
