City of Powell River has issued a notice about backyard burning within city limits: "Burning garden and yard debris within the city limits is strictly prohibited, except during the months of April and November."
Permits for burning during these months are available in city hall at 6910 Duncan Street.
The city encourages residents who intend to burn in their backyard to check the BC ventilation index, which is available on the Venting Index Forecast and Smoke Sensitivity Zone Interactive Map and the BC Government Open Burning Smoke Control Regulation: bclaws.gov.bc.ca/.../complete/statreg/152_2019/.
"It is the combination of the ventilation forecast and smoke sensitivity zone at your location that determines if you can burn and for how long," according to the BC government.
Burning dimensional lumber, demolition waste or noxious materials is prohibited.
