A garden oasis in Westview created by master horticulturist Diana Woods, called Boxwood Cottages and Gardens, will be number six on the map for the 2024 Powell River Spring Garden Tour, which is set for Sunday, June 9. Seven gardens will be open for visitors to stroll through and take in local horticulture wonders found in the qathet region.
Boxwood will be the grounding spot of the tour, hosting musicians, artists and the public.
"Joyce Furness and Debbie Dan will be painting on site," said Lesley Moseley, one of the garden tour organizers. "The first garden tour was in 1997 and I've been involved all this time."
Once a ticket is purchased a map will be available in order to find where the gardens are. Some are as far south as Zilinsky Road and as far north as Cranberry Street.
"Many of the gardens are really old and well established," said Moseley. "We have one [host] that will be his third time on the spring garden tour, and he's turning raw land into a fantastic garden."
Moseley suggests going to the gardens in any order, to avoid a garden tour traffic jam.
"There's another garden that's facing the water on a steep slope," said Moseley. "He's designed his garden while working to keep it from eroding because of climate change, and also introducing plants that are more resilient."
Proceeds from the tour will be donated back into the community via projects and scholarships.
The 300 available tickets can be found at Springtime Garden Centre in Cranberry or Mother Nature in Westview.
