Kisses and Kicks: Kisses for silent days

Here are the good deeds (and not so good deeds) that happened in our Coast community this week!
Kisses & Kicks
Kisses & Kicks

Here are your kicks and kisses for the week of January 17!

  • Kisses from the swimmers at the Gibsons pool for the partridge in the pear tree
  • Kisses to Heidelberg Materials for the silent days and nights over the holidays.
  • FedEx kisses to Dave for going above and beyond for us…we so appreciate your dedication to your job and for the public you work for!
  • Kisses to the two bus drivers at the Trail Bay bus stop Jan. 2 for going above and beyond to make it possible for me to get home safely on a dark, rainy night. It’s so appreciated.
  • Kicks to anyone posting in social media groups asking for details about local emergency incidents—it’s none of your business, and even if it were, this is neither the time nor the forum to find out. Respect privacy, let emergency services do their job, and stop treating real-life crises like community gossip fodder.
  • Kicks to all the drivers who continuously speed up and down Beach Avenue and Marlene Road. Slow down!!
  • Kicks to the person in our neighbourhood who misses garbage day and then proceeds to incinerate the garbage in their home woodstove for two days. The smell of plastics and styrofoam is unbearable and burning my lungs!
  • Kisses to all the drivers who drive Dakota Ridge with a properly equipped vehicle: i.e. with winter tires and chains/traction aid. It is a communal winter wonderland, and we are blessed by all the volunteers, SCRD staff and road crews that make it happen.
  • Kicks to the multitude of drivers who think they can safely get to Dakota Ridge without a properly equipped vehicle. A 4 x 4, AWD, or experience in a “real” Canadian winter does not equip you for the conditions. Last week: 56 cars held up by stuck vehicles, i.e. 56 families, some with small kids, stuck in the cold 2+ hours because several drivers were arrogant enough to ignore the warnings. A similar event the next day.
  • Many, many kisses to members of the Rotary Club for their hot lunches, entertainment and activities at the S.S.A.C, during the festive season. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
  • Kisses to the two Gibsons librarians for helping me up from a fall. Kisses, too, to the patron who notified them.
  • Kisses to the Lady in Blue who saw me debating over the T-bones. One wasn’t enough. I bought two and paid your kindness forward too.

Email your Kisses and Kicks to [email protected]. The deadline for submissions is 1 p.m. every Tuesday for a given week.

Coast Reporter will run kisses and kicks entries as space permits on a first-received, first-published basis.

Submissions must be accompanied by a name and phone number for confirmation by the editor. Names will not be printed in the column unless requested by the writer, for kisses only.

A kick is intended to be an anonymous critique between private parties and may in no way publicly identify an individual, group or business directly or indirectly.

Submissions must be no longer than 30 words. If your thanks or critique is longer, consider an ad in our classified section. The editor reserves the right to edit or refuse to run any submission.
