Kisses and Kicks: Kisses for Rogue Fest, kicks to road mis-use

Here are the good deeds (and not so good deeds) that happened in our Coast community this week!
Kisses & Kicks
Kisses & Kicks

Here are your kicks and kisses for the week of September 1!

  • Slobbery wolfhound kisses to the wonderful staff and volunteers who keep Rogue Fest going year after year. Awooooo!
  • Serious hard kicks to the people in Halfmoon Bay who were burning trash and kisses to the fire department for showing up so quickly.
  • Kisses to the new owners/managers of the Shell station in Gibsons. Your welcoming spirit and service is much appreciated and I suggest customers visiting Shell give the new operators a warm welcome.
  • Kudos to BC Ferries for squeezing every last car on the Earls Cove ferry.
  • What started as a very frustrating fender bender turned into a slow case of kindness and concern. To the woman with her calm demeanour, an off-duty firefighter, off-duty paramedic, a man with cold bottles of water, a dog groomer who came to our home. To all of you wonderful Coast residents who offered help that day, THANK YOU!
  • Kisses to BC Ferries for making sure our patient who required immediate medical transfer received priority boarding on August 23.
  • Kisses to Teresa who kindly gave me some Benadryl at the Saltery Bay Ferry terminal when I was stung by a wasp. You saved my day and was much appreciated.
  • Kicks to the woman in the car who rudely shouted “it’s a road!” to the visitors walking down Molly’s Lane to the shops. There aren’t sidewalks in Molly’s Lane and no need to be rude.
  • Kicks to those who use the four-lane section in front of the hospital as a formula one track.  It’s a 50 km/h zone, slow down.
  • Kicks to the resident at a beach access who posts defensive notes about noise, trail closures, and calling the police and SCRD. Not all of us can afford waterfront property, which is why we end up being “visitors to your neighborhood.”
  • Kisses to all the staff at Sechelt (shíshálh) Emergency Department. When I needed some serious medical assistance, I received it. Keep up the good work.
  • Kicks to the parents who don’t make their young children wear seatbelts. You are responsible for their safety (and following the law).

Email your Kisses and Kicks to [email protected]. The deadline for submissions is 1 p.m. every Tuesday for a given week.

Coast Reporter will run kisses and kicks entries as space permits on a first-received, first-published basis.

Submissions must be accompanied by a name and phone number for confirmation by the editor. Names will not be printed in the column unless requested by the writer, for kisses only.

A kick is intended to be an anonymous critique between private parties and may in no way publicly identify an individual, group or business directly or indirectly.

Submissions must be no longer than 30 words. If your thanks or critique is longer, consider an ad in our classified section. The editor reserves the right to edit or refuse to run any submission.
