CHARLOTTETOWN — Prince Edward Island is not requiring students or staff to wear masks in schools or on buses for the upcoming school year.
The province says masks are recommended for staff whenever physical distancing is not possible if they are working with students at risk of severe illness from COVID-19.
It says face coverings are encouraged for anyone who wants to wear them.
Chief public health officer Dr. Heather Morrison says authorities expect an increase in COVID-19 this fall.
But she adds that the government's goal is to have students return to school with routine measures in place for as long as possible.
The province says it will reimpose health orders in schools if needed, including masking, COVID-19 screening and outbreak-management measures.
