Keyboard brilliance is the hallmark of Wenwen Du, the outstanding young pianist who opens the 2016-17 Coast Recital Society concert season on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 2:30 p.m. at the Raven’s Cry Theatre in Sechelt.
Acclaimed internationally for the natural warmth and beauty of her playing, Du has given solo recitals in China, Poland, Holland, Germany, Austria, England, United States, Canada, and Italy. She has also performed frequently with British tenor Ian Bostridge. In a review of their recent New York recital, the New York Times critic called her playing “superb.”
An alumna of the prestigious Britten-Pears Programme in Aldeburgh, England, Du has participated in master classes with some of the most important performers of our time, including pianists Julius Drake, Imogen Cooper and Helmut Deutsch. She has performed at the Aldeburgh Festival as well as at Italy’s Casalmaggiore International Music Festival.
“This year’s CRS concert season features an exceptional line-up of musicians,” says CRS artistic director Frances Heinsheimer Wainwright. “We continue to build on the CRS tradition of bringing the finest classical musicians to the Sunshine Coast. We remain committed to ensuring that these concerts are accessible to everyone on the Coast, through our subscription concert series, as well as through our extensive Artists in the Community outreach program that presents concerts in local schools and eldercare residences.”
Du will perform music by Scarlatti, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann and Prokofiev. Next to come in this season’s CRS concert series will be cellist István Várdai and pianist Zoltán Fejérvári, performing on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 29.
