UPDATE: IHIT identifies Surrey homicide victim

IHIT is now investigating

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has now identified the victim in a brazen late afternoon shooting at a shopping mall near the 7900 block of 120th Street in Surrey on Monday.

In an media update on Tuesday, IHIT is identifying the victim as 29-year-old Jaskaran Singh Minhas, in an effort to advance the investigation.

IHIT says Minhas was known to police and is believed to have connections to organized crime.

“This was a targeted, brazen shooting in a high-traffic area,” says Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “Those involved displayed a complete disregard for public safety.

“This shooting has the hallmarks of a targeted, gang-related homicide and the IHIT will be taking lead. We believe there are at least two suspects involved and investigators are working diligently to identify all parties. Investigators are currently interviewing witnesses, collecting evidence and canvassing for video.”

On Monday, March 3 at approximately 5:25 p.m., Surrey Police Service (SPS) Frontline officers responded to calls of a shooting.

At approximately 5:35 p.m. Delta police officers responded to calls of a vehicle fire around 64 Avenue and Westview Drive in Delta.

IHIT investigators have confirmed the burnt vehicle in Delta is the suspect vehicle involved in the shooting.

This is Surrey’s first homicide of 2025.

IHIT is working in close partnership with the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU-BC), Surrey Police Service (SPS), RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU), the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS) and the BC Coroners Service.

Investigators are looking to speak with anyone who was in the area of the 7900 block 120 Street, Surrey and in the area of 64 Avenue and Westview Drive, Delta around the time of the events.
