What are your top priorities for the Sunshine Coast?

Affordability is a primary problem for our residents. Housing, groceries and transportation costs are historically high while public safety is at an all-time low. We cannot continue to tax, borrow and spend our way to prosperity. Since the NDP formed government in 2017, B.C.’s debt has surged from $39 billion to $112 billion. Interest on this is costing taxpayers over $4 billion dollars a year! The NDP is responsible for B.C.’s dire economic situation. Fiscal discipline is a must and the BC Conservatives will vote against reckless spending and I will support working towards a balanced budget.

Where do you stand on the shíshálh swiya dock management plan proposal?

After strong pushback from the Waterfront Protection Coalition and others, the NDP did a complete about face with the objective of silencing the group and struck an agreement with the WPC to grandfather their existing docks and boat-houses. Long term details are unclear whether this is a workable solution.

How would you address local safety and crime concerns?

This is a multi-faceted, complex issue. If I could pick one thing to mitigate the problem it would be to restrict the prevalence of drugs on the street today. We need to re-criminalize hard drugs and enable our law enforcement to arrest, prosecute and sentence those who are responsible!

Does the Sunshine Coast need a new/improved highway?

The highway was designed and then opened in 1962 and doesn’t serve our communities in 2024. We need a realignment of Highway 101 to better service all communities. The goal will be to create better traffic flow and connectivity between the coasts with an emphasis placed on public safety.

Should the province be providing subsidized housing on the Sunshine Coast?

They should be facilitating the construction of affordable housing in various forms such as a long-term leasehold ownership on Crown land. They could enter into a partnership with a local developer, providing land on a 99-year lease term with guidelines requiring the construction of affordable housing.

What more can the province be doing to help the Coast with its water woes?

The long-term problem doesn’t go away once the rain comes. We need to explore the abundance of water in the many aquifers on the Coast and in that storage, not lack of water, is the problem, we absolutely need to continue the process of providing an adequately sized reservoir.

What does reconciliation mean to you?

I’m committed to forming partnerships with everyone in my constituency that are based on equitable economic benefit and cultural respect. To accomplish this requires that all parties work collaboratively and move forward in a thoughtful way benefiting all.

Why should Coasters vote for you?

We have not had representation in Victoria for 19 years, nothing has been done. Our vote has been taken for granted. The BC Conservatives are a common-sense party and I will provide you with strong, fearless representation and ensure that the voice of this constituency is heard in Victoria.
