What is most important issue facing the school community? How would you address it?
There are many important issues at the forefront such as funding, food security and diversity. A strong strategic plan in place to ensure equity throughout and backed by policy to support those actions is vital.
How are you currently involved with education in your community?
Being a sitting trustee, I am deeply involved in the education of our community. I attend PAC meetings and sit on the education committee. I am currently involved in bargaining.
Who needs to be involved in school board discussions and decisions?
All stakeholders should have a voice, especially the students themselves. Effective governance in an organization focused on students requires that we listen to what those students have to say.
What do you see as the role of the school board?
The board's role is to govern. As a team, they set the direction of the district according to Strategic Plan, policy and the School Act.
What do you wish we'd asked you?
There's been lots of division provincially regarding the pandemic as well as SOGI issues. It's important to ensure that trustees are there to support and protect our students and staff.
