What is the most important issue facing the school community? How would you address it?
Student achievement. This is beyond graduation or attendance rates. It's our students' learning journey and how they feel during their public education experience and upon transitioning to our workforce. Fostering mastery and autonomy for students.
How are you currently involved with education in your community?
I am involved in education as a parent and as a school trustee. I am also volunteer as a leader of both Brownies and Guides; a recognized education program.
Who needs to be involved in school board discussions and decisions?
We need engaged citizens to participate in our discussions and decisions. Specifically, staff, students and community. We need both the Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw and the shíshálh Nations with us in discussions.
What do you see as the role of the school board?
School boards are advocates for our community. We responsible for setting the direction of public education incorporating local voice, culture and needs.
What do you wish we'd asked you?
Why are trustees and school boards important? How do school boards have an impact on our lives? Public education creates our future citizens. Who do we want them to be?
