Equity & inclusion. Policies and planning must be in place to ensure: equity of learning opportunity, voice, and access to support services; inclusion related in particular to socio-economics, race and culture, and SOGI.
How are you currently involved with education in your community?
I've been working away as consultant to other school districts. Now retired, I want to contribute my experience and learning to the students of SD46.
Who needs to be involved in school board discussions and decisions?
The board must listen to and learn from staff, students and community and ensure they hear from the quiet corners of these groups – a focus of my “away” work.
What do you see as the role of the school board?
Student learning is the central focus of any board; their role is to ensure policy and planning to provide for the learning of all students.
What do you wish we'd asked you?
As poverty and housing are critical issues facing the entire community, I wish you'd asked how community organizations, can coordinate their actions to comprehensively address the related concerns.
