The following is a Q&A that was distributed to all District of Sechelt candidates.
Candidate name
Micky Argiropoulos
Age
68
Occupation (s)
Business owner
Which position are you running for?
Councillor
Live in Sechelt? For how long?
8 years
What are your priorities if elected?
Water; Expedite housing applications that deliver what Sechelt needs; Commit resources to control crime, theft; Transportation; Consistent reliable bus service; Support for recruitment of workers.
Should Sechelt facilitate creation of more affordable housing? How?
YES We need higher density buildings, inexpensive homes and rental units especially for lower income families and seniors.
Should Sechelt prepare for climate change? If so how?
Taxpayers need to know how our lifestyles impact the environment. Residents and businesses both need the tools they can use to help our environment. The District can’t do it alone.
Is Sechelt managing growth appropriately?
We can’t survive without growth. I’m older and my husband and I need services we didn’t need 20 years ago. Without growth, those services won’t be available. As a councillor, my focus will be on the right type of growth.
How would you balance pushback on development with need for housing?
Need homes for seniors' medical professionals, first responders, those providing the services we are desperately short of. We must get people out of sleeping on the streets. It’s not “no development” it’s the right development will serve our community well.
What is the greatest infrastructure challenge facing Sechelt?
WATER we can solve with a strong council and SCRD Board I think we can do this in 2023 which we can start building the housing we so desperately need
What do you wish we'd asked you?
Homeless and crime Downtown Sechelt has become scary place especially at night will push hard for stronger policing to deal with this serious growing problem.
