The following is a Q&A that was distributed to all District of Sechelt candidates.
Candidate name

Age
54
Occupation (s)
Community worker, local business owner.
Which position are you running for?
Councillor
Live in Sechelt? For how long?
Yes. 38 years
If not incumbent, list related municipal committee / civic group experience.
16 years on council. Comm chair. RD rep. Community volunteer
What are your priorities if elected?
We need to fix the water problem. Solve homeless and affordable housing issue. Get a 2nd ferry for langdale. Develop sustainable District spending plans.
Should Sechelt facilitate creation of more affordable housing? How?
Yes. We must put together a plan to work with local partners and upper levels of govt to facilitate and fund local projects that meet the needs of families and workers requiring housing. Revise local OCPs to create units.
Should Sechelt prepare for climate change? If so how?
Yes. We need to be prepared to create mitigation via planning and funding mechanisms available from the province and climate fees, in order to prepare for oceans rising and heat.
Is Sechelt managing growth appropriately?
Sechelt has a community plan that will need some neighbourhood amendments to reflect the demands and desires of its citizens. There is an expectation of liveability that a homeowner has when they buy a home. Engagement is key
How would you balance pushback on development with need for housing?
We should encourage new homebuilds via zoning and fees to reflect the needs of our families and workers. Homes with suites, laneway housing, detached units and density are keys to solving affordability issue. People need housing now!
What is the greatest infrastructure challenge facing Sechelt?
Water is our most pressing issue. Water has always been a regional issue so we have partners that we will work with to provide more storage, sourcing.
What do you wish we'd asked you?
I wish youd also asked more about families: opportunities in Sechelt, recreation, affordability, longevity, education, healthcare. Do we meet needs?
