Which position are you running for?
Councillor
Live in Sechelt? For how long?
Full time since 2004
List related municipal committee / civic group experience.
Councillor DOS 2011-2014
What are your priorities if elected?
Ample water supply; affordable housing; ferries; highway safety and uninterrupted access for fire and ambulance services; creation more commercial tax base.
Should Sechelt facilitate creation of more affordable housing? How?
Absolutely. Council needs to understand why housing is so expensive, how to reduce costs on all types of real estate. More focused presence at UBCM (Union BC Municipalities) working with the province. More supply side across board.
Should Sechelt prepare for climate change? If so how?
Priority focused on all infra structures (roads, water, sewage) that may be vulnerable and what we need in place to weather the storm. Chapman Creek bridge comes to mind.
Is Sechelt managing growth appropriately?
C + Water, highway and ferry clog the narrative, not allowing people to think of what could be here on the Coast. Where do we want to be in 20 years? Continual collaboration between DOS and SIB is imperative.
How would you balance pushback on development with need for housing?
The pushback on development is due to concerns and misinformation on water, sewage, roads and lost of lifestyle on the Coast. Development and housing go hand in hand....but what kind of housing do you want to be heavily weighed in.
What is the greatest infrastructure challenge facing Sechelt?
Getting the water issue resolved, planned and executed to accommodate long term growth strategy for the cost.
What do you wish we'd asked you?
Motivation for running.
