Coats of Paint: A Wearable Art Fashion Show was held April 14 at the Sechelt Seniors Activity Centre, a fun and fashionable fundraiser. In preparation for the event, artists painted fabric as they would a canvas, which was then constructed into fanciful coats or vests, some embellished or appliquéed, some fully lined. The wearable works of art were modelled in a fashion show, then sold in a silent auction to the highest bidder during the evening. MC for the event was artist Paula O’Brien. To open the evening, Ivana Cappelletto and her group from Cardio Cabaret presented a powerful dance number. Joanne Rykers (at left), chair of the Refugee Sponsorship Committee, gave an update on the efforts of the Seniors Centre to bring a Syrian refugee family to Canada. The family of five have been waiting in a refugee camp in Jordan for five years, attempting to finalize the required paperwork. It is hoped they will be arriving in Canada before the end of this year. See more photos in our online galleries at www.coastreporter.net/photos-videos
