Halfmoon Bay Community School raises almost 3K for cancer research – celebrates with pie in the face

Our little community school of Halfmoon Bay celebrated our Terry Fox fundraising run in a big way! We raised almost $3,000. Last week, the top intermediate and primary fundraiser each got to select a staff member to pie in the face.

The top fundraisers for this year’s Terry Fox campaign at Halfmoon Bay Community School got to pick a teacher to pie in the face. However, top intermediate fundraiser Eli King (left), asked to be pied in the face by his father. Top primary fundraiser Olivia Milo (far right) chose to pie a teacher, while two students chosen by draw also got to make the “to pie or be pied” choice.

Our little community school of Halfmoon Bay celebrated our Terry Fox fundraising run in a big way! We raised almost $3,000. Last week, the top intermediate and primary fundraiser each got to select a staff member to pie in the face. Plus any primary or intermediate student who donated anything at all, had their name put into a lucky draw. Our top intermediate fundraising student was Eli King who raised more than $1,300. Eli is amazing! For the past few years, he had raised thousands of dollars canvassing door to door and collecting online donations in honour of his grandma. He selected himself to be pied by his dad, Reggie. Our top primary fundraiser was Olivia Milo who raised $100. She selected one of our EAs, Ms. Tania to pie. The lucky loony draws winners were intermediate student Thorin Stepaniuk and primary student Cohen Vaughn. The thundering crowd was excited as he chose the Gr. 7 teacher, Ms. Dimond to pie. Cohen wanted to get pied himself by one of his teachers Mrs. Simpson. Excitement filled the air with hopes of surpassing this year’s amount next year to help find a cure for cancer.
