We are very pleased to announce the athletes from the Sunshine Coast who have been selected to be part of the 2018 Special Olympics BC National Team. The six athletes and one coach will join 165 other athletes and coaches from B.C. and travel to Antigonish, N.S., July 29 to Aug. 5.
The Coast contingent includes: Genny Verge and Stephanie Rogers in aquatics; Chris Walker and Amanda Boghean in softball; Gus Vaughn and head coach Darren Lane in golf; and Bruce Stuart in athletics. All earned their spot on Team BC as a result of their efforts at the 2017 Special Olympics Provincial Games in Kamloops.
Team BC will be competing against all other provinces and give our athletes a chance to journey on to the World Games in Abu Dhabi March 14 to 21, 2019, the first time the Special O World Games will be hosted in the Middle East-North Africa region.
All members of Team BC 2018 are receiving their contracts and will commit to training tirelessly between now and the games next summer. The rest of their teammates are equally committed to cheering them on as they prepare themselves for this adventure.
We wish the best of the best of luck to these deserving individuals. They will do our peninsula and province proud!
