1955 - 2024
I (Sandra Howland) am saddened to say that on April 20, 2024, my oldest and dearest friend made the final journey to life’s end. Ellen May Cloutier, better known to many as Ellie, was born in Montreal, Canada on May 6, 1955 to Jessie and Alfred Cloutier. She had one sister Barbara Ann Height. All her immediate family passed away before her.
Ellie was a miracle, surviving years longer, against many medical professionals’ predictions. Diagnosed with brain cancer at 42 years, an early age; she took the challenges of the treatments and aftereffects in stride. Ellie met her health struggles with strength and grace as she met most things. Ellie met all challenges with a strong heart and stubbornness. Ellie always tried to take them in her stride as much as possible. This fact she was proud of and would offer, “never stop trying to be all you can be.”
Ellie enjoyed sports and animals all through her life. She loved the outdoors and in her earlier years, would walk and hike often. As my friend, we explored and travelled to many countries together, marvelling at different cultures and land sites.
She knew her time on earth was going to be shortened and met the end with peace and strength of character.
At Ellie’s request, no formal last service will be held. She believed in, “Ashes to ashes. Dust to dust.” Her favourite and happiest memories on earth was time spent on the Sunshine Coast and she will be returning there.
