What could be more fun than a Saturday with dogs and pickleball?
On April 20, pickleball clubs all over B.C. are holding charity tournaments in support of PADS. What is PADS you might ask? Pacific Assistance Dogs provide life changing independence for those with disabilities such as mobility, PTSD and deafness. Their accredited facility dogs also work with teachers, RCMP and psychologists to help support communities.
Sunshine Coast Pickleball Association (SCPA) will proudly be participating in this Paddles for PADS initiative with a club round robin as well as lots of lighthearted outdoor activities for Coast families and their dogs. The club has already raised $1,000 for the cause.
At the public events at Chatelech Secondary School, donations will be welcome, but, in the spirit of pickleball players everywhere, laughter will be obligatory. Families will be able to meet a PADS dog from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Folks can dress up their own dogs and join the costume parade. Dogs will also enjoy competing for prizes to see which one is the fastest at fetching a pickleball. Humans can try playing pickleball (free loaner paddles and balls will be available with members on hand to teach the basics). A ball machine will be available for practising skills. Smaller kids will delight in a prize for playing the “put the pickleball through a giant dill” game. The Lion’s Club will have its food truck on hand for burgers and hot dogs and is donating the profits to PADS.
It would be great for the Coast to make this a giant success, so come on out to Chatelech Secondary School on April 20, anytime from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
